Football Trips to Cadiz

Football Trips to Cadiz

Sea breeze, fried fish and yellow shirts: that is the rhythm of Cádiz. At Football Travel, we have sent over 50,000 fans away since 2008, and football trips to Cadiz are made for travellers who want soul over spectacle. We arrange the flight, hotel and match entry in one package, including our ticket guarantee, while you enjoy a LaLiga Hypermotion weekend by the Atlantic.

Cádiz, but not as expected

Cádiz feels different from Spain’s giant football cities. Here, the day builds through salt air, beach bars, old-town tapas counters and groups in yellow and blue drifting toward the ground. Founded in 1910, Cádiz carries the nickname El Submarino Amarillo, though this “Yellow Submarine” belongs to a rougher, funnier and more coastal tradition than the internationally famous version elsewhere in Spain.

The club’s motto, “La lucha no se negocia”, says plenty: the fight is not negotiable. Even with Cádiz listed in LaLiga Hypermotion for 2025/26, this remains a rich Spanish football trip. Before travelling, look up Mágico González clips. His genius, chaos and joy still explain the city better than any guidebook. For a wider sense of the country, our package trips across Spain show how varied the game can be.

  • Notice the shirts first: bright yellow tops appear in cafés, on scooters and along the seafront.
  • Listen for humour in the songs; Cádiz support is shaped by the city’s Carnival voice.
  • Keep an eye out for Gate 6 later, where Mágico González is honoured.

Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla by the Atlantic

Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla is the emotional centre of the trip. The former Ramón de Carranza stands at Plaza de Madrid, close to Playa de la Victoria and the Atlantic seafront. From 2026, JP Financial Estadio is used as a commercial match name, while the municipal name remains Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

Built in 1955 and remodelled in 1966, 1984, 1997 and 2003, the Cádiz ground holds around 20,000 to 20,700 spectators. Its opening fixture was played on 2 September 1955, a date still woven into local memory. The appeal is closeness: sharp noise, compact sightlines and a neighbourhood feel that gives football weekends in Cádiz their edge. Our Spanish football trips often lead fans to famous arenas, but this one wins people over in a different way.

  • Gate 6 is where Mágico González receives his nod.
  • Gate 5 honours Pepe Mejías, another name with deep local affection.
  • Behind the main side, the Macarty statue adds one more piece of Cádiz character before kick-off.

Food, songs and yellow streets

The day should move like a small procession. Start with market noise at Mercado Central, wander through old-town counters for Cádiz tapas, then follow the Paseo Marítimo toward Plaza de Madrid and Calle Pintor Zuloaga. Because we arrange carefully selected hotels close to the action, the rhythm feels easy rather than rushed. Our football trip packages are built so the weekend belongs to the city, not to planning.

Casa Manteca, El Faro de Cádiz and Mercado Central are names worth knowing. Try tortillitas de camarones, pescaíto frito, cazón en adobo, chicharrones de Chiclana or papas aliñás. Near the ground, Bar Gol, Bar La Escalerilla and El Submarino Amarillo gather local voices, while Woodstock Beach, Flamenco and Provenzal keep the seafront mood alive.

  • One song to learn: “Me han dicho que el amarillo”.
  • Its roots go back to the 1998 Carnaval de Cádiz contest.
  • Manolo Santander’s chirigota La Familia Pepperoni made it unforgettable.
  • Since 2015, the lyrics have been displayed inside the ground.

Fixtures with extra bite

Some LaLiga Hypermotion fixtures sharpen the weekend. The Derbi Gaditano is the most local rivalry, while regional dates bring extra songs, nerves and colour. Certain classic second-tier visitors can also turn the evening fierce, especially when old promotion races or survival battles are remembered in the stands.

Capacity is only around 20,000, so high-demand games are best chosen early as part of a Football Travel package. Visiting followers are usually placed in an upper corner between Tribuna and Fondo Sur, but neutral travellers often get the deepest sense of the place from a home area when available through our official partners. Our football weekends in Spain, LaLiga Hypermotion trips and Andalusian football weekend packages all share one idea: we handle the journey, and you arrive ready for the final whistle by the sea.
