History of FC Schalke 04
FC Schalke 04, often simply called Schalke, is one of Germany’s most traditional football clubs. The club was founded in 1904 in the Schalke district of Gelsenkirchen in the Ruhr area. Throughout much of the 20th century, Schalke played a central role in German football history and is closely associated with the working-class culture of the Ruhr district. The club’s colors are royal blue and white, earning them the nickname “Die Königsblauen” (The Royal Blues).

Schalke 04 has won the German championship seven times, particularly in the 1930s and 40s, when the club dominated with their characteristic “Schalker Kreisel” style of play. The club has also won the DFB-Pokal five times. On the international stage, their greatest triumph came in 1997 when Schalke won the UEFA Cup, defeating Inter Milan in the final.
