History of Atletico Madrid
Atlético Madrid was founded in 1903 by three Basque students under the name Athletic Club Sucursal de Madrid. At that time, they were considered a youth branch of Athletic Club (Athletic Bilbao). The club’s first kit was blue and white, and is believed to have been inspired by Blackburn Rovers. Eight years later, they changed their colors to red and white, inspired by Southampton.
In recent years, Atlético Madrid has enjoyed a lot of success under the leadership of manager Diego Simeone. The club has won La Liga and has participated in two Champions League finals, where they lost to their rivals from Real Madrid. There is no doubt, however, that Atlético has come to stay at the top of Spanish football.
