Stadion Poljud opened in 1979, hosting the Mediterranean Games. It could originally house approx. 50,000 spectators, but this was reduced by just over 15,000 spectators as it was converted into a stadium with only seats. The seashell-shaped stadium is located in the area Poljud (hence the name) in Split and is located right next to the Adriatic Sea.
