Millerntor-Stadion

Millerntor Stadium is not your ordinary football stadium. One of the first things you notice when you walk towards the stadium is a massive building behind the north grandstand. The building is called Flakturm and was built during World War II as a bunker. The Millerntor Stadium was inaugurated in 1963 and in 1970 changed its name to Wilhelm-Koch-Stadion in honour of the former club president. Later, however, it emerged that he had been a member of the Nazi party during World War II, and the name was changed back to Millerntor Stadium in 1998.
The stadium has room for 29,546, of which 16,940 of the seats are standing places.
Incidentally, the Millerntor Stadium is, as far as we know, the only one of its kind where there is a kindergarten with views to the pitch!
