FA Cup
FA Cup is England's most important cup competition, and it is also the world's oldest football tournament. The cup competition is full of prestige, and both the semi-finals and final are played at the legendary Wembley Stadium, which holds up to 90,000 spectators.
FA Cup Final 2022
The 2022 FA Cup final was played between Chelsea and Liverpool. The match marked 150 years since the first FA Cup final was played. Both teams had a relatively easy route to the FA Cup final. Chelsea faced teams such as Plymouth Argyle FC, Luton City, Chesterfield, Middlesbrough, and Crystal Palace. Liverpool's route to the final was against Shrewsbury Town, Cardiff City, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, and finally they met Manchester City.
Chelsea were out for revenge after their Carabao Cup final defeat against Liverpool, while Liverpool were out to win their second trophy of the season. The Chelsea vs Liverpool match was end-to-end, with both teams getting numerous chances. But both goalkeepers chose to play fantastic games, refusing to let any goals in. The match ended 0-0 and went to a penalty shoot-out, just like in the Carabao Cup final, three months earlier. This time the penalty shoot-out was much shorter than last time. Chelsea missed two penalties, which meant that Tsimikas could score the decisive penalty (which he did), and Liverpool could win their 8th FA Cup.
This was Liverpool's first FA Cup trophy since 2006. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp became the first German manager to win an FA Cup final. Chelsea, however, set an unfortunate record as the first team to lose three consecutive FA Cup finals.
